The Trump administration has given Iran until Saturday to publicly pledge it will stop attacking commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz and keep the key shipping route open.
The deadline follows President Donald Trump declaring the U.S.-Iran ceasefire “over” after fresh attacks on commercial vessels. The Strait of Hormuz carries around 20% of the world’s oil, making it a critical global energy route.
Despite rising tensions, Washington and Tehran are continuing diplomatic efforts as both sides explore the possibility of renewed talks.
