Florida Officials Confirm 13-Foot Alligator Was Responsible for Fatal River Attack

Florida wildlife officials have confirmed that DNA testing identified a 13-foot alligator as the animal responsible for the tragic death of 31-year-old Brittany Clark, who was attacked while swimming in the Econlockhatchee River in Central Florida on June 28.

According to investigators, Clark was enjoying the river with her boyfriend and friends when the alligator suddenly attacked. Her boyfriend, Chance Allison, courageously tried to pull her away from the animal and immediately called 911. Despite the rapid response of first responders, Clark later died from her devastating injuries.

Following the incident, wildlife officers captured two large alligators from the area. Laboratory testing later confirmed that the 13-foot reptile was the one involved in the fatal attack. Officials say the case highlights the importance of remaining cautious around Florida's lakes, rivers, and other freshwater areas, especially during periods of increased alligator activity.

Authorities continue to remind the public to swim only in designated areas, keep a safe distance from wildlife, and never feed alligators.
